Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tests COVID-19 positive

  • Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who was scheduled to attend the Indian Air Force Commanders’ Conference in New Delhi on Thursday, has tested positive for COVID-19
  • “The Raksha Mantri is currently under home quarantine with mild symptoms,” the official statement said
  • On Wednesday, as many as 10,542 cases fresh cases were registered, as per the union health ministry’s website

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who was scheduled to attend the Indian Air Force Commanders’ Conference in New Delhi on Thursday, has tested positive for COVID-19. “The Raksha Mantri is currently under home quarantine with mild symptoms,” the official statement said, adding that a team of doctors examined Rajnath Singh and advised him to take rest.

“Singh was scheduled to attend the Indian Air Force Commanders’ Conference in New Delhi on April 20, 2023, but had to skip it after being tested positive for the virus,” the statement added. It is worth mentioning here that the COVID-19 cases has been on the rises in India for the past few days. With 12,591 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, India’s active caseload currently stands at 65286.

Union Defence Minister,,There was a marginal dip in coronavirus cases with 7,633 new infections reported on Tuesday and 9,111 on Monday. Due to the rise in Covid cases, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had last month held a high-level meeting and reviews the situation and public health preparedness.

During the meeting, he had stressed upon the Covid-appropriate behaviour.

On January 10, 2023, Rajnath Singh had tested COVID-19 positive and isolated himself at his official residence. The senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader had then said he had “mild symptoms”.
